BUCCLEUCH GUNDOGS - STATEMENT
“Being responsible breeders, Buccleuch Gundogs believe that each litter they breed should be an improvement on the parents”
Buccleuch Gundogs will pay particular attention to all details that will ultimately affect the future development of all sporting gundogs.
We abide by the Kennel Club’s Codes of Best Practice and will join the KC’s Accredited Breeders scheme.
We agree to abide by all statutory laws regarding dogs and their care.
We agree to abide by the Breeding and Sale of Dogs (Welfare) Act 1999 as listed below. Those breeders who breed five or more litters per year must be licensed under this Act by their local authority. However, breeders with fewer litters will also need to be licensed if they are carrying out a business of breeding dogs for sale.
The Act states that licensed breeders:
- May not mate a bitch which is under 12 months of age.
- May not whelp more than six litters from a bitch.
- May not whelp two litters within a 12 month period from the same bitch.
- The breeder must keep accurate records.
- A puppy cannot be sold until it is at least eight weeks of age.
