PRESS RELEASE
THE Duke of Buccleuch’s dog trainer has made sporting history after taking the first three places in a prestigious national competition.
Buccleuch Sporting gun dog trainer and handler David Lisett won first, second and third place at the recent Irish Springer Championships at the Glenarm Estate in Northern Ireland.
It is the first time in the history of the competition that the same trainer or handler has won all three top spots.
The talented trainer then went on to take 4th place with Buccleuch Athena, who belongs to Lady Amabel Scott, the Duke's youngest daughter, at the cocker Championships at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk earlier in the month where he received his prize from HM The Queen.
David said the triple win at the Irish Championships had been: “a dream come true”.
He said: “To be honest, I was flabbergasted; pleased but surprised. You dream of something like this happening but never really think it will.
“I had no idea we had won and never thought for a minute we would take the three top spots.
“The judges just look at the number of the dog, not the name of the handler so they didn’t know either but when they asked for the three Buccleuch dogs to compete in a run-off, I knew we had won something. “I’m delighted with the result and once the British championships are over at the end of the month, the dogs can put their feet up too, at least for a while!”
International Field Trial Champion (IFTCh) Annickview Breeze was placed first, with IFTCh Annickview Anna coming in second place and Field Trial Champion Buccleuch Charm was third.
Head of Buccleuch Sporting, Roy Green, said he was delighted with the recent wins.
He said: “The whole Buccleuch sporting team is delighted at the fantastic results by David and his team, it is a reflection of the hard work and dedication they have all put in over the past year. Never did we think that these unbelievable results could be achieved in the short space of time that the Chapel Kennels have been operating. To have qualified dogs for all the major championships in one year is an incredible achievement and to win in such a emphatic way is amazing.”
